Thailand mourns

The 19 coffins covered a whole wall of the Wat Rat Samakee temple. A long white string, a Buddhist image of purity and protection, ran across their tops. Placed around every coffin had been objects to hold the younger youngsters into the afterlife: a Spiderman outfit, a plush kitty, juice bins, grilled red meat, and toy vans, lots of them.

The town of Uthai Sawan on Saturday began formally mourning the 36 sufferers, 23 of them younger youngsters in a daycare center, who died after a former police officer attacked them in a rampage on Thursday. The funerals needed to be cut up across three temples, and priests from neighboring provinces traveled to the city to assist with the rites.

The frame of the gunman, Panya Kamrab, became cremated in Udon Thani, after no temple in Nong Bua Lumphu Province, where the attack passed off, became willing to perform his ultimate rites, local information media mentioned.
